Mangosteen Pericarp

The effects of the mangosteen fruit are powerful and nutritiously beneficial. It is important to know, however, that the most nutrients are not, in fact, derived from the actual fruit itself, but rather from the pericarp of the fruit. What makes the mangosteen so unique is the mangosteen pericarp, as modern studies of the mangosteen are finally beginning to actually validate the science that is behind the fruit’s long known and appreciated benefits, nutritional and other. The mangosteen pericarp is known to contain a large number of biologically active substances, such as that of vitamins, catechins, polysaccharides, and stilbenes.

Why Is the Mangosteen Pericarp so Beneficial?

The mangosteen pericarp is the part of the mangosteen fruit that contains the highest concentration of xanthones. However, due to proprietary methods, it is possible to use the whole fruit and yet still retain its unique flavor by combining it with that of another delicious fruit, such as the pomegranate. The human body has absolutely no problem absorbing the nutrients from the mangosteen pericarp, of which represents extremely powerful, naturally anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant components. The fact that the pericarp is so rich with anti-oxidants is of incredible importance, as it is these anti-oxidants which scavenge and neutralize free radicals throughout the body. These free radicals are, in fact, one of the greatest threats to our overall health, as they attack each cell in the human body thousands of times per day, weakening it and making it susceptible to sickness and disease.

Although there is no actual evidence to prove that it is true, it has been suggested that the mangosteen may be helpful in helping to prevent such diseases as cancer. Additionally, very early studies in the lab suggest that it may have promise as a treatment to be applied to the skin for acne. In places such as the United States, the mangosteen is taken by mouth supposedly to support such things as microbiological balance, to help the immune system, improve joint flexibility, as well as to provide mental support. While there is much non-documented and non-provable evidence surrounding the mangosteen, extracts of mangosteen have been shown in lab tests as being able to stop certain bacteria and fungi from growing, and one lab study even suggested that mangosteen extracts inhibits the growth of acne-causing bacteria. Indeed, the mangosteen is an intriguingly special fruit.
