Don't extract your own tooth. I did this 4 days ago to a tooth (that prevously had a root canal) broke. I felt no pain from extracting the tooth, but I also managed to rip an entire strip of gum tissue off along the bottom of my other teeth, and I have a giant hole in my cheek from tissue that got pulled along also. I haven't been able to eat in the 4 days since I've done this.

hello-

1. If you pull a tooth, and develop an abscess, the infection doesn't travel immediately to your heart. If it happened to travel to your heart and settle in
a valve flap, it is a very slow process(weeks). It's pretty rare for an abscess
to infect a heart.

2. If your mouth is swollen, you most likely have a localized infection. You
should get some antibiotics. Any doctor will give you antibiotics for an abscess.
If your whole mouth is swollen I would go to the emergency room(it's a common reason
people go).

3. You won't have a heart attack. If you are going to pull very loose teeth get some antibiotics. Take the required dose.

4. I'm no expert, but I do know you won't have a heart attack by pulling a loose tooth. Make sure the tooth is about ready to come out on it's own though.

5. It's crazy we don't have basic dental care. If for some reason you do pull your
own teeth--make sure you have at least 3 days worth of antibiotics. A free clinic
will give you antibiotics for a swollen mouth.

You may want to call the ER to make sure they even have an emergency dentist on hand, because if they dont they will only give you antibiotics and possibly a numbing shot. They can direct you to a dentist, yes, but they may not be able to pull the tooth there. (Here, the Excela Health system does not have any dentists.)

I find that Walmart has a nice dental plan. Delta Dental pays 80% of simple procedures, and 60% of major ones. Given that it is hard to find a cheap dentist, that still helps in some ways. I don't expect to have all my work done for free, and I'm not rich (my husband and I are on the bottom rung of society, pulling in 14,000 a year).

Not to mention that colloidal silver can poison you and turn your skin blue. It's a home remedy, not endorsed by anyone but the most old school of doctors anymore.

Abscesses are simply awful, I know, but the antibiotics are really the best bet for you. It will help! It takes two days, usually, for the antibiotics to kick in before you can even feel relief. I had one abscess and an infection, both treated by azithromycin (I'm allergic to penicillin) and after two days I was back to normal with minor pain meds (Tylenol).

The only problem I had was that my dentist would not pull the tooth until I had run the course of antibiotics, so I was forced to drain the abscess myself, which stunk dreadfully and was painful. It was worth it to see my nose go back to normal after having been pushed out by the accumulated infection underneath, though, and I made sure to sterilize everything many times.

Try telling that to someone Like ME who can feel the drill no matter how much Local they use. The only way a dentist can do any drilling on me is to put me out cold and that costs a but load More. So My Back Molder ended up rotting out from Bottom to top because 5 attempts and 700$ later and I still could feel the friken drill so It never got fixed and I gave up. After 10 years the tooth, molder came off leaving the roots. The roots are Hollow and now seem like they are arising and my gums are attempting to extract them or what ever. But Now Im not sure what to do because aside from being put out cold a Dentist can not do much for me. So what do I do?

There once was a tooth, we'll call him Steve.
Steve was hanging out with all the other teeth in the 12 year old mouth he grew up in, coca-cola, kool-aid, and pop-rocks galore. After a nice "meal" of skittles and mountain dew, the owner of the mouth, me, is riding his bicycle down a one way street. A car driving the wrong way, speeds around a car backing out of a driveway, and sends me, Steve and all my other teeth crashing to the asphalt.

A cracked skull, 66 stitches in various parts of the body, head, hand, abdomen, and knee, fun.
After a long day at the hospital, I come home to a family celebrating my arrival with a barbeque. Someone hands me a big juicy burger with onions, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar, bacon, mayo, and tangy garlic BBQ sauce. I'm famished, nothing all day but some skittles.
I sit on my swing-set, plate in lap, and take a huge bite.
Right about now is when Steve decides to "tell" me he's cracked, and his nerve is exposed, along with three of his brothers.
Funny that they would miss that in all of the head x-rays, they assumed all dried blood in my mouth was from my severed lip, and head gash.

Fast forward 14 years, Steve is the only one left of the original four chipped amigos. He's barely clinging to life, his top cracked and crumbled down to a crater over the years. Occasionally he shocks me after an iced tea, just to show me he's still there.
I awoke a few days ago with a swollen cheek, and a rapidly developing abscess at the root of Steve. I "know" people, so obtaining a fresh script of hydrocodone, naproxen 500's, and penicillin was actually quite simple.

The problem with abscesses at the root of teeth is that they develop an epithelial membrane sooner, and can completely block off any antibiotics. My pain killers and anti-inflammatories last about an hour per dose, and serve to dull the pain.
Today I decided to do something about it. I grabbed some vinyl gloves, a sewing kit, sea salt, baking soda, and a bunch of cue tips.
It took almost an hour of massaging my jaw and cheek to work the swollen area down, and out through the hole I had created in my gums, right next to Steve. I'm going to have him pulled, but it will take a couple weeks. As a wounded veteran of the conflict in Afghanistan, I do feel let down by my country now. I work, and make too much to qualify for aid, my VA check covers a few bills, like 80% of my monthly medical bills. I knew a dentist once who would pull a tooth because it needed pulling, and if you could pay he would charge you. Not any more.

Pain is subjective, simple "surgical" procedures shouldn't cost an arm, a leg, or even a tooth. I am sitting now with only the dullest bit of pain, from stretched cheek and face. If you are able to help yourself, do what you can, do not open an abscess if you aren't already on a course of antibiotics, Only make minor incisions. Do not force infection through tissue, sometimes simply breaking the sealed off area open will allow medicine to run it's course.
Typing sets the mind at ease. I don't care if anything I wrote makes sense to any of you, it was most therapeutic for me.

I had an uncle DIE from an infection from an abscessed tooth. So if you don't have money, at least go to the emergency room in the nearest hospital.

NOTE: Many hospital Emergency rooms (which must admit you no matter if you can pay or not) can give you something for the pain, pull out the tooth or can refer you to a dentist who will help you free or at little charge. They will also give antibiotics which will calm the infection.

I'm a 26 year old female in the united states. I have been on a shot for 11 years that eats away at the calcium and bones in your body and was not warned of this side effect until a year ago. My mother spent $6,000 on braces and orthodontic care for me when I was in high school and then another $80,000 was paid by my grandparents and insurance to have my jaw broken and realigned. I took fabulous care of my teeth. Then one day when I was 20 my teeth started chipping when I brushed. And everything got worse during and after my pregnancy. Now I've had 2 molars extracted in 12 months, both were abscessed. And now I have another abscess. It of course showed up Wednesday evening after all doctor offices were closed and not opening on Thursday because of the American thanksgiving holiday. The dentist isn't going to be opened until Monday and its only Saturday. I went to the ER on thanksgiving and they prescribed me amoxicillin and tramadol. Unfortunately the doctor and pharmacist did not check for medication interactions and I had a severe side effect with tramadol mixing with my anti anxiety medication. I ended up back in the ER today with tremors, muscle jerking and focal seizures due to the interaction. Also the abscess swelling is worse, I've developed a fever and now I'm dizzy and sick to my stomach. The ER doctor said "we are not dentists". Yes I realize that, my dentist is not opened for another 3 days and I'm afraid this infection is spreading. She then looks at the tooth and says we don't prescribe anything stronger than tramadol for dental pain. Okay I can't take that bc you didn't check for drug interactions. She goes on to prescribe me 12 lortabs to get me through the weekend. She blows it off like its no big deal. She said its normal for the infection to get worse before it gets better even after being on antibiotics for 24 hours. But when she looked inside my mouth she said if I don't get this tooth pulled quickly that I'll have a blood infection. Talk about a contradiction.

So now I'm in pain. My jaw is swelling. But the tooth did pop, not sure what that meant, but the tooth itself doesn't hurt anymore. I guess the nerve died. So the pain is all in my jaw bone now where the swelling is. I'll be making an appointment to go sometime next week to have the tooth pulled. My insurance will pay 50% of the $125 per tooth my dentist charges. And within the next few weeks I'm going to take out a loan to have all of my teeth extracted and to have the mini dental implants put in. This is the last dental abscess I'm ever putting up with again.

I’m a 26 year old female in the united states. Now I’ve had 2 molars extracted in 12 months, both were abscessed. And now I have another abscess. It of course showed up Wednesday evening after all doctor offices were closed and not opening on Thursday because of the American thanksgiving holiday. The dentist isn’t going to be opened until Monday and its only Saturday. Also the abscess swelling is worse, I’ve developed a fever and now I’m dizzy and sick to my stomach. The ER doctor said “we are not dentists”. Yes I realize that, my dentist is not opened for another 3 days and I’m afraid this infection is spreading. She then looks at the tooth and says we don’t prescribe anything stronger than tramadol for dental pain. Okay I can’t take that bc you didn’t check for drug interactions. She goes on to prescribe me 12 lortabs to get me through the weekend. She blows it off like its no big deal.
